TED: BODY LANGUAGE IS MORE POWERFUL THAN WORDS | AMY CUDDY

“Emotion always has its roots in the unconscious and manifests itself in the body.” – Irene Claremont de Castillejo

TOOLS FOR YOUR TEAM

When I facilitate workshops, train clients and run 1:2:1 executive coaching sessions, this is a tool I am constantly using.  How you show up physically has a huge impact on how you connect and communicate with your audience as well as impacting your own mental state.  Poor physiology won’t get you the results you need – adopt a physiology of excellence, and your testosterone (confidence) will rise, your cortisol (stress hormone) will drop.

In this TED Talk, Amy Cuddy explores how body language affects how others see us, and how it may also change how we see ourselves. A social psychologist Amy shows how “power posing” — standing in a posture of confidence, even when we don’t feel confident — can affect testosterone and cortisol levels in the brain, and might even have an impact on our chances for success.

Amy Cuddy’s research on body language reveals that we can change other people’s perceptions — and even our own body chemistry — simply by changing body positions.
